b'are a little bit different because we are translating Japanese to English, I think the basics are the same for all good companies that have stood the test of time. The way you accomplish goals technically differs from each area because theres different cus-toms and different cultures, so you have to have flexibility. But as long as you have those principles in your heart, you can achieve success anywhere. I think that as a global company, we really have to grow while promoting these principles. And many global companies do this, so I see that as our future. What areas do you see the Americas targeting for future investment? Which industries pose opportunity? As a company that operates in virtually every industry and throughout all levels of the value chain, we are well positioned toAt SCOAseize the opportunities currently presenting themselves. This is anChicagoOfficeexciting time for business, as traditional models shift and creative solutions need to be created. We have the international, regional and local networks, relationships and human resources needed to support this changing business landscape. And I think we should leverage our current strengths to naturally connect to the industriesthat present opportunities. But I dont want to limit us. The United States is the world leader in innova-tion and new styles of business; its the heart of an innovative, more advanced world.I think our Americas region is the leader in innovation for the whole Sumitomo Corporation global opera-tion. So whats important here is that we dont limit our view. We should always take a broad look at whats going on. That is how we evaluate our opportunities in the future. We have to protect our assets, our people, our business that we have. But just like any sports team, you need a balance between offense and defense. In football, you dont just go for the running game. Sometimes you go for a big passing game. We should look for true growth, no lim-its, and keep a wide view so we can capitalize on all opportunities. When you knew you would be returning to New York We have a long list of business partners with relationships(Wada previously served as a General Manager of our that span decades. You dont want to lose. You want parency and trust, which is what we give to our business partners.to win, right? So to win is to see more smiles from the people Think about what our partner wants, their needs and challenges, who work here. I feel it is my role to keep our people happy and but dont forget about what we need as well. We always encour- satisfied, and we can then continue to be a strong company.age a mutual partnership. That has been in the heart of success- When people enjoy what they do and receive the appropriateful relationships with our partners. Its the key to what weve builtrecognition, they can achieve anything. Our companys greatest together and maintained for decades. asset is our employees, so we need to stay profitable to provide security for our people. The balance is earn money and enjoyour work.
